Original German combat belt buckle issued to personnel of the police formations, including the Ordnungspolizei. The front side features a central swastika enclosed within a smooth circular field, surrounded by a prominent oak leaf wreath and topped with the traditional embossed motto "Gott mit uns". The piece is struck from high-quality aluminum, maintaining exceptionally sharp details against a finely pebbled background texture. The reverse of the buckle displays distinct stamped manufacturer markings located near the catch, featuring the stylized interlaced letters FLL inside circles alongside the two-digit year code 40. This confirms production by the prominent firm Friedrich Linden based in Lüdenscheid in the year 1940. The buckle is fitted with its original genuine brown leather tab, featuring authentic heavy-thread perimeter stitching. The dual-prong attachment sleeve and catch assembly remain fully intact, stable, and mechanically operational. The entire metal surface exhibits a natural age patina and very light wear from period use, which beautifully underscores the historical authenticity of the piece. This police buckle remains in highly collectible, uncleaned condition without any modern alterations or interventions.
Historical context:
During the Third Reich, German police forces underwent a massive centralization process, resulting in standardized uniforms and field gear featuring updated national emblems. The motto "Gott mit uns" (God with us) was utilized on Ordnungspolizei box buckles as well as related branches like the Feuerschutzpolizei and Wasserschutzpolizei. Early wartime aluminum examples from 1940 are highly sought after by militaria collectors due to their superior manufacturing quality and crisp details, which were later replaced by more economical steel and zinc variants as the war progressed. The FLL maker mark identifies the factory of Friedrich Linden in Lüdenscheid, a renowned manufacturer known for producing high-standard field gear and awards during the era.
