Description

The presented pair are original, German flight boots (German: Fliegerstiefel) from the World War II period, intended for pilots and aircrews of the Luftwaffe. These are rare boots featuring an electrical heating function (model Pst 4004 E).

The boots are preserved in very nice condition, showing delicate signs of use typical for original, historical equipment. The construction includes black, smooth leather in the foot section and brushed leather (nubuck/suede) in the calf section in a beige-sand color. Both zippers ("Ri-Ri" brand) are functional, and the leather straps with buckles are present.

Physical characteristics of the item:

Condition: Very nice, with delicate signs of use.
Material: Grained leather and suede/nubuck, lambskin fleece lining inside.
Markings: The tag inside the boot features the RBNr (Reich Betriebs Nummer) marking, a manufacturer's identification number, and a date ('44).
Electrical System: Built-in heating elements with connections (often 24V 11W) that connected to the aircraft's power supply via a quick-release coupling.

Historical Context:
Electrically heated flight boots were introduced into Luftwaffe equipment on February 16, 1940, to complement heated flight suits. They were essential for survival in the extremely low temperatures at high altitudes, where the temperature in unheated cockpits of bombers or fighters could drop to dozens of degrees below zero. These boots were a modification of the standard Pst 4004 model and were designated Pst 4004 E (Elektrisch). They represent a crucial piece of equipment reflecting the development of military technology during World War II and the conditions of service for German airmen.
