Original white glazed porcelain figurine depicting the Moorish dancer known as "The Moor" (Der Mohr). This is Model I of the series, designed by Richard Förster in 1939. The figure is captured in a dynamic, expressive pose with raised arms and crossed legs, typical of traditional Morris dancing. The left legging features four distinct bells. The underside of the base includes the impressed Allach hallmark (runes within an octagon), the artist's signature R. FÖRSTER, and model number 1. The piece is noted for its exceptional sculptural detail and high-quality glazed finish.
Historical context:
The "Moriskentänzer" series was created by Richard Förster, inspired by the famous 1480 Gothic wooden sculptures by Erasmus Grasser for the Munich Old Town Hall. Produced between 1939 and 1945, these Allach figurines were prestigious artistic reinterpretations, representing Munich's deep cultural heritage and the factory's superior craftsmanship.
