HACO, Berlin

The company Haco-Werk Berlin, Stahlwarenfabrik was established in Berlin, although its exact founding year remains undocumented. Initially specializing in the manufacture of standard hardware and general steel goods, the firm expanded its manufacturing scope during the Third Reich era into the political and military sectors, establishing itself as a notable manufacturer of SA service daggers (Sturmabteilung) [M1933] and highly coveted Ernst Röhm honor daggers. Situated in Berlin, this manufacturer stands out as one of the few historical blade makers located in the capital region, diverging from the traditional manufacturing hub of Solingen.

The firm manufactured an estimated total of approximately 12,000 SA service daggers and 6,000 Ernst Röhm daggers. This production volume grants these historical pieces a 2.5/5 rarity rating (moderately rare) among advanced military antiques collectors. Despite being moderately available, they are highly appreciated and sought after due to their unique Berlin provenance and the immense historical significance of the Röhm variations. These early daggers feature premium solid nickel-silver fittings and bear the iconic etched blade motto "Alles für Deutschland". Crossguards are historically documented with specific SA group (Gau) distribution markings, notably including B (Berlin-Brandenburg) and Fr (Franken) for standard models, and primarily group B for Röhm daggers. Beyond political contracts, the factory's portfolio included standard domestic steel goods.

The distinctive trademark or logo of Haco-Werk Berlin features a clean, traditional layout. It consists of the script text "HACO Berlin" executed in a clear, stretched font mimicking handwriting, frequently enclosed within a thin surrounding line or frame. This classic aesthetic design was typically etched directly onto the lower part of the blade near the crossguard to denote origin and quality. Today, surviving products from this maker represent a highly significant, scarce chapter of the non-Solingen German cutlery history, making them excellent reference examples for a blank weapons encyclopedia.

Haco-Werk Berlin is a prominent Berlin-based manufacturer. Produced approx. 12,000 SA daggers and 6,000 Röhm daggers (2.5/5 rarity rating) featuring a distinct "HACO Berlin" script logo.
