Initially specializing in the manufacture of standard steel goods and commercial hardware, the firm rapidly expanded its manufacturing scope during the Third Reich era to include contract production of political edged weapons, with a primary focus on early SA service daggers (Sturmabteilung) [M1933]. Situated in Solingen, the manufacturer operated in the absolute center of German blade craft.
In 1935, the factory was officially assigned the RZM code M7/52 for the manufacturing of NSDAP political organization daggers. Herbertz & Meurer manufactured an estimated total of only 1,000 SA service daggers. This extremely limited production run grants these historical pieces an exceptional rarity rating of 4.5/5 (highly rare) among advanced military antiques collectors. These early-production pieces feature classic solid nickel-silver fittings and bear the iconic etched blade motto "Alles für Deutschland". Crossguards are historically documented with a notably wide array of specific SA group (Gau) distribution markings, including He (Hessen), Ho (Hochland), Nrh (Niederrhein), P (Pommern), S (Sachsen), and Wf (Westfalen). Beyond political contracts, the factory's portfolio included standard commercial steel goods.
The highly distinctive trademark or logo of Herbertz & Meurer consists of a circular emblem conveying a classic aesthetic. The text "HERBERTZ & MEURER" runs along the upper arc, with "SOLINGEN" following the lower edge. Positioned at the absolute center is a stylized monogram "H M" featuring a vertical sword displayed below it.
