An authentic German box belt buckle intended for enlisted men and non-commissioned officers of the SA Sturmabteilung or the National Socialist Motor Corps NSKK. This specific piece represents the highly sought-after, very early two-piece construction type with a beautiful bi-metal contrast finish. The main body of the buckle is stamped from heavy gauge brass, onto which a separately struck circular central medallion framed by a stylized wreath has been factory-secured using two robust solder joints. The roundel itself is manufactured from a contrasting light metal alloy, retaining visible traces of its original silver finish. The center of the medallion showcases the classic early-pattern national eagle with wide-spread wings, clutching a wreathed swastika in its talons. The reverse of the buckle reveals the authentic circular alignment joints of the applied disc alongside a functional brass prong bar assembly with two teeth mounted on a transverse spindle and an integrated catch loop. The entire piece is covered in a gorgeous, deep natural age patina and light wear that highlights its undeniable historical authenticity.
Brass SA and NSKK belt buckles with separately applied medallions represent the earliest, pre-war tier of manufacturing for Third Reich political and paramilitary organizational accoutrements. Due to the high emphasis placed on ceremonial and public uniform presentation, these striking two-tone buckles were heavily favored before wartime material restrictions forced a transition to simplified single-piece aluminum and steel stamps. Two-piece variations from this era are highly valued by militaria collectors due to their excellent depth of relief and superior level of period craftsmanship. The absence of visible manufacturer markings on the reverse is entirely textbook for early orders placed before the full implementation of strict RZM control codes.
