Original German 1-liter large-capacity field canteen identified as a model for mountain troops (Gebirgsjäger) or Wehrmacht medical personnel. The neck of the aluminum bottle features a very clear and deep manufacturer stamp CLF and the production date 42. The set is fully complete and features its original aluminum cup retaining approximately 95% of its factory green paint. The brown felt cover is in very good condition with functional steel snap fasteners. The leather carrying straps remain flexible with no structural cracks and the metal carabiner is in full working order. The entire canteen structure remains sound and is a scarcer variant of the standard M31 model distinguished by its larger body size.
Historical context:
One-liter canteens were issued to specialized units in high-altitude environments and to medics to provide a larger water supply for the wounded. The CLF 42 mark indicates production during the height of the war still manufactured to high-quality standards using aluminum and natural leather. Specimens found as a complete set with the original aluminum cup which was often replaced by bakelite during the war are now rarer and more desirable for collectors.
