Description

The presented item is an original German police bayonet from the Third Reich era, preserved in excellent condition. It features a staghorn (or brown bakelite simulating stag) grip, finished with a stylized eagle head pommel. One side of the blade features the manufacturer's mark in the form of a knight's head in a helmet, and the other side bears the full manufacturer name: Weyersberg Kirschbaum & Cie Solingen. The blade is full, straight, and maintained in perfect condition, with its original nickel-plated finish.

Physical details and markings:

Grip: The grip features stag plates with an inserted aluminum police eagle insignia, characteristic of the post-1936 centralization period.

Scabbard: A leather, brown scabbard (often associated with rural police, Landjägerei, but used interchangeably) with metal fittings, in very good condition.

Matching Markings: Both the crossguard and the upper scabbard fitting feature matching numbers and unit designations: "S.G. I. 295". This marking indicates the bayonet was assigned to a specific Schutzpolizei (Protection Police) unit, significantly increasing its collector value.

Combat Construction: The bayonet has a fully functional, movable catch (press stud), classifying it as a combat model, intended for attachment to a rifle.

Historical information:
After Hitler came to power and the German police forces were centralized in 1936 under Heinrich Himmler's command, standardized dress and service bayonets were introduced. This specific style of bayonet, with an eagle head pommel and without a clamshell, became standard issue, replacing earlier, longer models used by individual state police forces (e.g., Prussian). Bayonets with rifle attachments were typically issued to paramilitary units or police riot/emergency companies (Schutzpolizei Bereitschaften). The manufacturer WKC (Weyersberg Kirschbaum & Cie) from Solingen was a major supplier of high-quality edged weapons to the German armed forces and police during that era.
