A complete and authentic German youth organization field knife (Fahrtenmesser) issued during the 1933–1945 period. The weapon features a single-edged drop-point steel blade with a straight spine, displaying a deep and sharply struck RZM organizational logo within a circle and the factory code M7/29 on the ricasso. The hilt profile is composed of black checkered composite grip scales attached to the full metal tang via two sound domed steel rivets. Inset flush within the face of the grip is the official enamel organization diamond bearing a black swastika on quartered red and white fields, remaining free of significant chips. The hilt architecture includes the correct upward-curving single-quillon crossguard and an eagle-head shaped pommel, both retaining original nickel-plated sections underneath a layer of natural age patina. The knife is housed in its original heavy sheet-steel scabbard finished in black enamel with honest surface wear, which includes its integrated black leather belt hanger strap and a functional metal retaining snap.
Historical context:
The official Hitler Youth knife was introduced in the summer of 1933, serving as a signature dress accessory and utility tool for outdoor training camps. This particular variant dates to the mid-production era when traditional blade etchings were phased out in favor of strict manufacturing accountability via the Reichszeugmeisterei (RZM) coding system. The numerical code M7/29 identifies the production source as Klittermann & Moog GmbH, located in the famous cutlery center of Solingen. Examples that have survived with matching components—including crisp RZM stampings, an uncracked enamel grip badge, and intact leather hanger pieces—are highly sought after within the historical militaria community.
