Original German police cap insignia (so-called "eagle") from the 1936–1945 period. This is the 2nd pattern police eagle, featuring an eagle with spread wings clutching an oak leaf wreath with a swastika, set within an oval wreath. The badge was produced using the die-stamping method in aluminum sheet, providing its characteristic lightness and silvery sheen.
The reverse clearly shows the "F.K.S." maker's mark, identifying the specific manufacturer of this piece. The item retains its original attachment in the form of a horizontal wire pin, indicating its complete state of preservation. The strike details are very sharp, and the surface bears a natural aged patina, confirming its authenticity as a piece of equipment for Order Police (Ordnungspolizei) personnel.
Historical context:
Eagles of this type were a standard element of German police uniforms during the Third Reich, worn primarily on visor caps (Schirmmütze). The Ordnungspolizei (Orpo) was the formation responsible for maintaining public order and security. Silver versions of the eagle were intended for enlisted personnel and lower-ranking officers, while gold versions were reserved for higher officer ranks. The F.K.S. hallmark is one of the less common marks found on the collector's market compared to mass producers, which increases the historical and collector value of this specimen.
