An authentic German box belt buckle intended for enlisted men and non-commissioned officers of the SA Sturmabteilung or the National Socialist Motor Corps NSKK. This specific piece represents the highly sought-after early one-piece construction type, manufactured using an advanced high-relief die-striking technique from a single metal sheet. The obverse of the buckle features a smooth, polished field with an integrally embossed circular central medallion framed by a stylized wreath. The center of the medallion showcases the classic early-pattern national eagle with wide-spread wings, clutching a wreathed swastika in its talons. The reverse of the buckle reveals a distinct mirror negative image of the obverse layout, displaying the sharp precision of the pre-war tooling. The design is equipped with a factory steel prong bar assembly with two teeth mounted on a transverse spindle, alongside a brazed brass catch loop. The entire piece features its original, heavy nickel plating, which maintains an excellent luster alongside honest service scratches that validate its historical authenticity.
Nickel-plated SA and NSKK belt buckles were primarily produced during the pre-war era and early 1940s. Due to the highly political and ceremonial nature of these formations, a strong emphasis was placed on uniform presentation, making nickel-finished accoutrements the preferred choice for political rallies and public parades. One-piece stamped variations are highly regarded by militaria collectors due to their rugged durability and clean profile lines compared to standard variants with separately applied multi-piece roundels. The absence of visible manufacturer markings on the reverse is entirely textbook for early political equipment orders.
