Description

Original German Honour Cross of the German Mother (Ehrenkreuz der Deutschen Mutter) 1st Class in Gold. The obverse is decorated with beautifully preserved blue and white enamel, featuring a central black swastika on a white shield, surrounded by the gilded inscription "DER DEUTSCHEN MUTTER". Striking gilded metal rays project cleanly between the crossarms. The smooth reverse bears the embossed date "16. Dezember 1938" alongside the facsimile signature of Adolf Hitler. The medal includes its authentic blue and white striped ribbon, shortened to fit inside the presentation box. This award is complete with its original dark-colored presentation case, which features a gilded cross imprint on the lid showing minor period wear and slight edge scuffs. The inner satin lining of the lid displays the clear printed manufacturer's mark: B. H. MAYER, PFORZHEIM. A textbook example of a complete, premium-quality German historical award set from a highly desirable maker.

Historical context:
The Mother's Cross was instituted on December 16, 1938, as a core component of the Third Reich's demographic growth and propaganda efforts, serving to honor women with exceptional merit for large families. The Gold Class (1st Class) was exclusively awarded to mothers who gave birth to eight or more children. The renowned workshop of B. H. Mayer in Pforzheim (the historic center of German jewelry and medal production) was an officially authorized manufacturer contracted to produce high-grade state decorations, known for its superior enamel work and precision. Pristine pieces that retain their original maker-marked presentation boxes are highly prized within the global militaria community.
