The presented pin is an original commemorative badge of the Polish Rifle Squads "Zarzewie", issued for the 25th anniversary of the organization's founding (dates 1909-1934 visible on the border). The item is made of brass, with visible trace amounts of silver plating, much of which has worn off over time.
On the obverse, in the center, there is a stylized military eagle, referring to the coat of arms used during the reign of Sigismund I the Old. On the border, against a textured background, the inscription reads: "STRZELECKIE DRUŻYNY GL. POLSKIE 1909-1934". The reverse of the badge has the original mounting in the form of a vertically soldered pin. The condition of preservation is described as good, with natural signs of aging, patina, and wear to the silver plating, which confirms the authenticity and age of the item.
Material: Brass (possible trace silver plating).
Dimensions: Standard for this type of pin (e.g., approx. 22x30 mm).
Markings: No manufacturer's signatures on this variant.
Condition: Good, with visible wear and patina.
Historical information:
The Polish Rifle Squads (PDS), alongside the Rifle Association, were a key, legally operating paramilitary organization in Galicia before World War I. PDS originated from the "Zarzewie" movement (from the magazine "Zarzewie") and aimed to provide military training for youth and fight for Poland's independence. After regaining independence in 1918, many PDS members joined the ranks of the Polish Army, and the organization itself continued to operate as an association for physical education and military training, subject to the Ministry of Military Affairs. This badge commemorates the 25 years of existence of this movement so vital to Poland's independence.
