This item is an original German Waffen-SS officer's M43 field cap (Einheitsfeldmütze) in size 56, preserved in excellent collector's condition. The cap is constructed from distinctive late-war Italian gabardine, a wool and viscose blend characteristic of mid-to-late war production. Its officer status is indicated by the silver aluminum piping surrounding the crown. The front features a factory-applied BeVo woven trapezoid insignia, while the left side is adorned with an Edelweiss mountain troop insignia embroidered on a black wool base. The interior lining remains intact and clearly displays the size marking 56, confirming its official military specifications.
Historically, M43 caps made from captured stocks like Italian gabardine are highly prized as evidence of the Third Reich's logistical adaptations after 1943. This model in size 56 merges the utility of the universal field cap with the heritage of alpine formations, symbolized by the Edelweiss flower officially authorized for SS use in October 1943. The machine-woven BeVo trapezoid insignia became the late-war standard for combat durability. Specimens in such remarkable condition, combining rare fabric with original complete insignia and clear markings, represent a cornerstone for high-level Waffen-SS collections.
