DDAC Gau Hochland Plaque – Through Bavaria's Mountains 1935 – Original

This original commemorative plaque was issued by the German automobile club DDAC for participants of the rally known as Durch Bayerns Berge, held in 1935 in the Gau Hochland district. The item is crafted from bronzed metal and features precise, high-relief embossing across its entire surface. The central part of the design showcases a stylized Alpine panorama, underscored by a decorative three-line Gothic inscription. The lower section of the plaque is occupied by the official DDAC emblem depicting an eagle holding a steering wheel, surrounded by characteristic Alpine flora such as edelweiss and alpine roses. The entire composition is framed by a wide, embossed laurel wreath, and the natural dark patina on the metal surface fully confirms the historical nature and age of the piece.

Historical context:
The plaque serves as a valuable record of the regional Gau Hochland branch activities within the only official motoring club operating in Germany after 1933. Events such as the rally through the Bavarian peaks were intended to demonstrate the technical reliability of vehicles and promote motor tourism in challenging high-altitude terrain. Badges of this type were proudly mounted on the radiator grilles of participants' cars, serving as a prestigious distinction and proof of involvement in the official automotive structures of the era.
