Description

This item is an original Polish Air Force eagle, which served as the official headgear insignia for the Polish Air Forces in Great Britain as part of the Polish Armed Forces in the West (PSZnZ). The badge, intended for mounting on service dress caps or side caps, was crafted from white metal (nickel silver) using a high-quality die-stamping technique, resulting in exceptionally sharp details of the plumage and crest. The insignia features the iconic spread-wing design and remains complete with its original attachment system, consisting of two wire loops (omega style) for secure fastening to the cap. This piece is in exceptional, near-mint condition, showing a clear mirror-image counter-relief on the reverse, which confirms its historical authenticity.

Historically, this pattern of eagle is a textbook example of insignia produced in the United Kingdom between 1940 and 1947 for Polish airmen serving alongside the RAF. Polish Air Force eagles from this era are highly sought after by collectors due to their superior craftsmanship and their direct connection to Polish military service in pivotal World War II campaigns, including the Battle of Britain. Examples in such preserved state, with intact mounting prongs, represent a rare and prestigious addition to any collection of Polish Armed Forces in the West militaria.
