The company Schüttelhöfer Artur & Co. (ASSO), Stahlwarenfabrik was established in Solingen-Wald, though its exact founding year remains undocumented. Initially specializing in general steelware and hardware, the firm dynamically expanded its operations during the Third Reich era into the political and military sectors, establishing itself as a dedicated manufacturer of SA service daggers (Sturmabteilung) and contracts for the SS. Situated in Solingen-Wald, the manufacturer built upon the region's deeply rooted traditions as the heart of German blade craft.
In 1935, the factory was officially assigned the RZM code M7/13 for the manufacturing of NSDAP political organization daggers. Furthermore, the company held the license code 534/##/SS, specifically designated for official Schutzstaffel dagger production contracts. The firm manufactured an estimated total of 8,000 SA service daggers, which grants these pieces a 3/5 rarity rating (moderately rare) among advanced military antiques collectors. These early-production pieces feature classic solid nickel-silver fittings and bear the iconic etched blade motto "Alles für Deutschland". Beyond political daggers, the factory's portfolio included standard domestic steel goods.
Detailed graphic documentation or historical records concerning a specific pictorial trademark or logo utilized by Schüttelhöfer Artur & Co. (ASSO) have not been extensively preserved, with later variations heavily relying on direct RZM markings. Today, surviving products from this maker represent a sought-after chapter in Solingen cutlery history, making them excellent reference pieces for an encyclopedia on blank weapons manufacturers.
