Original German flight trousers, commonly referred to as Kanalhosen, issued to Luftwaffe pilots and crews during WWII. This pair is the technologically advanced electrically heated version, constructed from heavy dark blue fabric with a distinctive dark fur lining. Inside the waistband, there is a well-preserved large fabric label from the prestigious manufacturer STRIEGEL & WAGNER K. G. (brand Striwa) located in Lichtenfels/Bayerische Ostmark. The label features a clear 1943 production date and handwritten markings. The trousers are equipped with multiple zippers, cargo pockets, and olive drab canvas suspenders attached via metal snaps. Despite showing signs of wear and historical field repairs that attest to their combat history, the item remains in very good structural condition.
Historical context:
Introduced in 1941, channel pants were designed to allow fighter pilots better mobility in cramped cockpits and to improve survival chances if downed over water. The electrically heated version represented the peak of uniform technology, plugging directly into the aircraft's power grid to protect crews from extreme cold at high altitudes. The Striwa firm was a renowned supplier of high-quality leather and flight clothing, and 1943-dated examples hail from the period of the most intense aerial warfare on both the Eastern and Western fronts.
