An authentic German Infantry Assault Badge (Infanterie-Sturmabzeichen) in silver class, presented in outstanding collector's condition. The badge is manufactured using the deep-stamping technique (hollow back), ensuring a lightweight feel while maintaining extremely sharp and precise striking details. The obverse features the classic composition of a Mauser K98 rifle with a bayonet within an oak leaf wreath, topped by the Wehrmacht eagle. The reverse, a negative of the obverse, retains nearly all of its original, lustrous silver plating, a rare find for period pieces. The vertical mounting pin and catch are fully functional and securely attached to a robust hinge. The lack of a maker's mark is a characteristic feature of this specific technological variant.
Historical context:
Instituted on December 20, 1939, this badge was one of the most significant combat awards for front-line infantry soldiers. it was awarded for participation in three separate assaults on three different days of combat. Hollow-back versions are highly prized by collectors for their aesthetics and early-war production quality, which typically surpasses later-war zinc castings. This particular piece, with its remarkably preserved finish, is a prime example of "investment grade" militaria.
