An original, rare patriotic miniature in the form of a heraldic shield, commemorating the military effort of the Polish Legions. The item features the following physical characteristics:
Form: A small lapel pin shaped like a shield topped with an open crown.
Obverse: Deep relief depicting an eagle breaking shackles and the figure of the Allegory of Poland. The shield bears the dates: "1914" and "16. VIII" (the date of NKN's formation).
Reverse: Solid and smooth, made of base metal (tombac) with clear traces of original silvering.
Fastening: A unique wide, flat almond-shaped clip.
Signature: The outer side of the clasp features a distinct, raised abbreviation of the issuing institution: "N.K.N." (Naczelny Komitet Narodowy).
Condition: Very good. The silver plating is largely preserved, covered with a noble dark patina. The clasp construction is stable and functional.
Miniatures of this type were proudly worn on jacket lapels by independence activists and individuals financially supporting the Polish Legions. The stamped N.K.N. signature confirms the official origin of the item from the Krakow center of the Supreme National Committee, which coordinated the military and political efforts of Poles between 1914 and 1916.
