Historical context:
The Allach Porcelain Manufactory (Porzellan Manufaktur Allach, PMA) operated in Germany between 1936 and 1945 and was directly controlled by the SS under Heinrich Himmler. Himmler saw porcelain production as part of building a new, Aryan culture and often gave Allach products to high-ranking SS officers and friends of the regime as prestigious gifts. Animal figures, such as this fox, reflected the contemporary fondness for naturalism and were intended to promote calm, rural motifs. Unfortunately, after 1940, production largely took place in the Dachau concentration camp subcamp, where prisoners were forced to work. These items, while valued for their mastery of execution, are a dark relic of history, connecting art with Nazi ideology and war crimes.
