An authentic early-pattern German army (Heer) enlisted men's belt buckle from the Third Reich period. The item is manufactured from struck aluminum featuring a distinct pebbled background. The obverse displays a centrally positioned army eagle clutching a swastika, surrounded by the traditional motto "GOTT MIT UNS" and oak leaf clusters. The buckle remains complete with its original leather adjustment tab. The reverse of the buckle features a clearly legible stamped manufacturer's mark consisting of the letters "oLc" inside a diamond, which corresponds to the renowned firm Overhoff & Cie from Lüdenscheid. This exact manufacturer identity is repeated on the leather piece, which bears a crisp, deep stamp reading "Overhoff & Cie Lüdenscheid 1937". The dual-prong attachment construction and the catch remain fully intact, functional, and structurally sound. The metal and leather surfaces exhibit a natural aging process, light storage dust, and gentle patina, completely free from modern alterations. This specimen represents an excellent example of pre-war high-precision manufacturing intended for Wehrmacht personnel.
Historical context:
Aluminum belt buckles featuring the eagle and swastika design were officially introduced into Wehrmacht service in 1936. Due to the high cost of the raw material and strategic shifts toward total war production, aluminum manufacturing was abandoned in 1940 in favor of stamped steel. Early pieces produced between 1936 and 1939 that retain their original, matching, and dated leather tabs are now highly sought after by militaria collectors worldwide. The Overhoff & Cie factory in Lüdenscheid was among the top tier of German metal insignia and buckle manufacturers, supplying premium-grade equipment to various organizations.
