This Hitler Youth knife is an outstanding example of early production from the 1933–1935 period, originating from the esteemed Wilhelm Halbach workshop in Solingen. The primary highlight of this specimen is the blade, which features the clearly preserved, acid-etched organizational motto Blut und Ehre!, confirming its historical authenticity and early manufacture. The reverse of the blade displays a rarely seen manufacturer's hallmark, showing the distinctive Solingen firm's logo. The hilt retains its original black checkered grip plates, housing an intact, enameled HJ diamond emblem. All metal fittings, including the crossguard and pommel, are covered in a noble aged patina, and the steel scabbard preserves a significant amount of its original black finish along with the authentic leather hanger.
Historical context:
The firm of Wilhelm Halbach in Solingen was among the smaller manufacturers supplying edged weapons to youth organizations, making HJ knives with this specific mark much rarer today than products from mass-market brands. Specimens featuring the etched Blood and Honor motto were only produced during the first few years of the organization's existence, before strict RZM guidelines mandated production simplification and the removal of blade inscriptions. Earning the right to carry such a knife was the highest honor for young HJ members, serving as proof of passing proficiency tests, which gave these items immense prestigious value in Germany at the time.
