Wolf Josef, München-Au.

The company Josef Wolf, Stahlwarenfabrik was established in Munich-Au (München-Au / Haidhausen), Bavaria, though its exact founding year remains undocumented. Initially specializing in general steelware and cutlery production, the firm expanded its manufacturing scope during the Third Reich era to fulfill official contracts for edged weapons, specifically focusing on SA service daggers (Sturmabteilung). Its geographical location in Munich makes it highly notable, as it was one of the very few documented manufacturers based in Bavaria to produce SA political daggers, standing out as a premier alternative to the dominant Solingen blade industry.

Josef Wolf manufactured an estimated total of only 1,000 SA service daggers. This extremely limited production run and unique regional background grant these historical pieces the highest possible rarity rating of 5/5 (extremely rare) among military historical artifacts collectors. These daggers feature premium solid nickel-silver fittings and bear the iconic etched blade motto "Alles für Deutschland". Beyond these political daggers, the factory's portfolio included standard domestic steel goods and cutlery.

The distinctive trademark or logo of Josef Wolf consists of a circular emblem. The text "JOSEF WOLF." is placed along the upper arc, with "MÜNCHEN-AU." following the lower arc. In the center sits a stylized "V" or double "V" symbol, resembling a diamond shape or overlaid triangles. This distinct design, conveying a modern and geometric aesthetic, was typically etched directly onto the blades. Today, surviving daggers from this Munich maker represent a pinnacle collectible within the Bavarian edged weapons history.
